James may have been a twin. I wish I had more info on them but this information has been closeted many years. I finally got my great Aunt to explain to me that Robert, (child of Mary Jane) and Alice (child of Phoebe) married (lst cousins) and it was so shameful to the family that no one ever talked about it. It caused many in the family to change the spelling of their last names to Vaughn. There is 8 generations between James and myself, so I assume they were here in the 17th century.

NOTES FOR JOHN VAUGHAN b. abt 1762. In 1777 enlisted in Captain William Brown's Company of the Maryland Artillery, and served on the continental line. Vol. xviii, Archives of Maryland records this service. 1794 Va., Charlotte Co., met his future wife Nancy Callicot 1794 m. in Halifax Co., Va.- John and Nancy had 12 children 1800 Hawkins Co., Tn. (this part of Hawkins Co. became Hancock Co. in 1844) 1800 until their death lived on farm which is now on Route 1, Eidson, Tn. They are buried in the Vaughan Cemetery across the meadow from the original home site on Copper Ridge.

Could they have gotten the brothers mixed up or could she have married a second time?-her b. May 22, 1818 In Hawkins County, TN. Only one source lists her as a child of theirs.
