BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA
Brunswick County was formed in 1720 out of Prince George County, but was not organized until 1732. It covered a huge area encompassing all or a portion of present day counties of Bedford, Campbell, Charlotte, Franklin, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Patrick and Pittsylvania. Parts of Surry County and Isle of Wight County were added to Brunswick in 1723 and 1732.
It is obvious when researching prior to 1732 that Prince George County records should be researched (what little there are). What is not obvious is that parts of Surry County and Isle of Wight County were added to Brunswick in 1723 and 1732. Accordingly, those counties should be researched when researching Mecklenburg families prior of 1732. Lunenburg and Greensville Counties should be searched when going forward in time.
The primary parishes of Brunswick County are St. Andrews and Meherrin Parishes. .
