      Will proven 13 FEB. 1786


      In the name of GOD I William Vaughan (sic) of the Parish of St James and
      County of Mecklenburg, being of weakened sickly in body but of sound mind
      and memory thanks to Almighty GOD for the same and being persuaded of
      the certainly of mortallity am now moved to declare this my last will and
      testament,(viz),  I give devise and dispose of my estate in the following
      manner and form- imprimas it is my will and I do order that all my just
      debts and funeral expenses to be first paid and satisfied.

      ITEM My will and desire is that all my estate both real and personal be
      continued together as it is this year, and then for my beloved wife Mildrage
      Vaughn,(sic) to have a suffient support out of the crop now making to last
      her and those that lives with her one year and the overpush of the said crop
      shall be equally divided between the surviving heirs of my body to them and
      their heirs for ever-

      ITEM I give to my beloved wife Mildrage Vaughn (sic) two negros (viz)
      Charles and Lucy also three horse kind, (viz) the mare called Mogy Buch
      and the barge mare also ten head of her choice of the cattle and the hoggs
      and sheep also all thehouse hold furniture of every kind except two feather
      beds and furniture during her natural life and over above this my will is
      that all my legatees bind themselves in a suffinent bond to my executors to
      see that my wife does not suffer during her natrual life in case of accident-

      ITEM Give to my daughter SARY GREGORY one negro girl called SARAH
      and her increase to her and her heirs (viz)

      ITEM I give unto my son SAMUEL VAUGHAN the LAND and PLANTATION
      whereon he now lives containing on hundred acres to him and his heirs forever-

      ITEM I give unto my son JOHN VAUGHAN one negro man called SAM at
      he finishing of the present crop to him and his heirs forever-

      ITEM I give unto my son JAMES VAUGHAN one negro man called JACK
      at the finishing of the crop to him and his heirs forever-

      ITEM I give to my son PETER VAUGHAN one negro boy named HARRY
      at the time above mentioned to him and his heirs forever-

      ITEM I lend to my daugher MILARSON OVEBY one negro woman named
      PATT during her natural life and then I give unto my Grandson WILLIAM
      OVERBY the whole of that part of my estate lent to his mother at the decease
      of his mother and before to him and his heirs forever-

      ITEM I give unto my daugher MILLEY CHANDLER one negro wench
      called LUCY together with her increase after the decease of my present wife
      and not before to her and her heirs forever-

      ITEM I give unto my daughter ELIZABETH VAUGHAN one negro girl
      called HANNAH together with her increase also one feather bed and
      furniture, and one cow and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever-

      ITEM It is my will and I order that all my legatees do bind themselves in a
      bond sufficient security to bear an equal proportion yearly during the natural
      life of my wife MILDRIGE VAUGHAN of the hireing two negroes equally as
      good as CHARLIE & LUCY for the use of my children (viz) SAMUEL
      VAUGHAN & MILLY CHANDLER to suppy the vacancy of those two
      negroes lent to my wife and arising therefrom shall be to SAMUEL
      VAUGHAN & MILLY CHANDLER to them and their heirs forever-

      ITEM My will and desire is that MARY LEGEMORE shall have one feather
      bed and furniture to her heirs forever-

      ITEM my will and desire is that at the finishing of the present crop that all
      the negroes given and lent be gathered together and equally by three honest
      man of good judgement to that my whole estate and equally be divided and
      after giving my wife her choice of the two plantation to live upon during her
      natural life the other plantation shall be sold together with every individual
      that is not given or lent including that part of the crop called the overplus
      and equally divived between my ten children hereafter mentioned (viz)
      SAMUEL VAUGHAN, JOHN VAUGHAN, JAMES VAUGHAN, PETER
      VAUGHAN, MILLISON OVERBY, NANNEY GREGORY, SALLEY
      GREGORY, MOLEY HAYES, MILLEY CHANDLER, AND ELIZABETH
      VAUGHAN.

      Each to have an equal portion in negroes or money to be received as is above
      directed to them and their heirs forever-

      ITEM My will and desire is that at the decease of my wife above mentioned
      that the whole of my estate lent to her be sold except the two negroes and
      equally divived between my ten childrn above mentioned to them and their
      heirs forever-

      ITEM I do likewise constitue my friends JOHN WYNN & SAMUEL
      VAUGHAN executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby
      utterly disavow an revoke every other testament my will legacy and excutor
      by me any ways before mentioned ratifying and conforming this and no
      other to be my last will and testament.
       

      In witness whereof I SHALL WHEREUNTO SET MY HAND AND SEAL
      THIS 20 th DAY OF MARCH 1785
