in 1832 at the age of 72 and
where he died on September
2, 1847. Married there,
January 28, 1793, Levina
Frances Nance; widow pensioned
1847, aged 76. Query in file
states that soldier married
(1) Elizabeth Vaughan (born
1758-1760, Virginia) and
(2) Levina Nance; further
states that soldier's children were
James, William, Samuel who
married Polly Rice, Matthew,
Molly, Mildred, who married
Thomas Gwin, Winifred who
married John Gwin (nephew
of Thomas Gwin), Micky who
married John Hamilton of
Virginia, Susanna who married
David Tyler, Elizabeth, and
Polly.
BEADLES,
Edmund entered service in 1779 in King William
County, Virginia where he
was born August 31, 1764; pensioned
there in 1834. Affidavit
there in 1834 by Joel Beadles, born
January 12, 1761 (no relationship
shown). Query in file 1936
from Catherine Beadles, Hayfield,
Kentucky, states a John
Beadles moved with wife Martha
Vaughn and nine children
from Pittsylvania County,
Virginia, to Graves County, Kentucky.
BRESSIE,
Thomas entered service in 1776. Soldier had a son
Francis (died a minor without
issue) and a son Thomas M. of
Kentucky and North Carolina
who married Elizabeth Jamieson
and whose last will and testament
dated July 15, 1824, was
probated May 26, 1828, Norfolk
County, Virginia. In 1845.
Elizabeth, now married to
James D. Fisher who had died
leaving widow and daughter
Sarah Frances Fisher. Elizabeth
died in 1845 leaving daughter
Sarah Frances Fisher (resided
Norfolk County, Virginia),
who died leaving paternal grand-
father Israel Fisher. In
1845 also living Frederick Cason, Lewis
Cason and Maria Cason (uncles
and aunt by halfblood of
Elizabeth Bressie Fisher),
and Elizabeth's cousin Frances
daughter of Rheuben Cason;
Elizabeth's sister Sarah Vaughan,
mother of Elizabeth F. Vaughan.
Soldier also had other
surviving children living:
Joceming [sic mg], William, Patsy of
Richmond, and Mary wife of
Taylor Simes; heirs applied for
pension 1845; rejected. (From
mg. Best I can figure, Sarah
Jamieson married Vaughan.
Does anyone know if that’s
correct?)
BUTCHER, Samuel, entered
service from Loudoun County,
Virginia, where he was born
March 28, 1756. Applied for
pension in 1833 in Wood County,
Virginia; application
rejected, less than six months
service. Children in 1844:
Thomas, and Susan, wife of
Atwell Vaughan. Query in file
states soldier died May 2,
1847 in Wood County and that he
was son of Samuel. Sr. and
Susanna Lewis..
CHANDLER,David
entered service ca 1780 in Virginia. He
died ca July 10, 1822 in
Mecklenburg County, Virginia; married
there, ca June 20, 1801,
Mildred Vaughan. Widow applied for
pension in Mecklenburg County
in 1855, aged 94 and applied
again in 1856, aged 96. Rejected,
insufficient proof of service. .
CHILDRESS,
William entered service in Caswell County, North
Carolina; later entered service
again from Ninety-Six District,
South Carolina where his
grandfather William VAUGHAN
resided. He was born December
25, 1762 in Buckingham County,
Virginia; pensioned in 1833
in White County, Tennessee; died
January 14, 1839. Married
in Buckingham County, July 28,
1784, Charity [surname not
given mg]. Widow applied for
pension in 1844 in DeKalb
County, Tennessee, aged 83.
Rejected for proof of marriage.
Son Hiram was living in 1834.
Query in file, 1935, from
descendant Mary Baker Simrall,
aged 80, Cookeville, Tennessee.
CLOUD, William entered service
in 1776 in Henry County,
Virginia. He was born September
17, 1750 (old style) in Rowan
County, North Carolina; pensioned
in 1833 in Grayson County,
Virginia; died February 8.
1842 in Carroll County, Virginia;
married, September 1838,
in Grayson or Carroll County,
Virginia, Nancy Vaughn. She
was pensioned at age 42 in 1853,
Carroll County, Virginia,
where she was residing with son-in-
law, P. 0. St. Paul. She
died February 20, 1898. Only child
mentioned was Martin "son
of Nancy Cloud's late husband"
who resided in 1866 in Carroll
County, Virginia. Widow
granted bounty land warrant
August 9, 1856; widow's sister-
in-law Martha Vaughan resided
in 1866 in Carroll County,
Virginia, Query in file,

Los Angeles, California;

soldier and widow Nancy; made
claim for $500 due her mother.

COOK,
Thomas entered service in 1777 in Lunenburg County.
He died September 7. 1819.
He married, December 27, 1784,
Martha, daughter of Robert
Vaughan (living then), Amelia
County, Virginia, Widow pensioned,
aged 77, in 1839 in
Charlotte County, Virginia.
She died there in 1840 leaving
children: Elizabeth Franklin,
Nancy Davis, Mary Adams,
Martha Wilkinson, and Thomas;
John A. Adams admin-
istrator of her estate.
DRAKE,
Thomas entered service in Amelia County, Virginia.
He was born in Virginia.
He died March 24, 1835 in Bedford
County, Tennessee. He married,
in Brunswick County, Virginia,
August 12, 1802, Catharine/Caty
Vaughan. Widow pensioned
in Bedford County, Tennessee,
in 1853, aged 77. She stated
that the soldier had been
granted a pension. Children in 1853:
Nancy (49), James (48), Susan
(45), Polly (42), George (ca 40).
and Sarah (38). Soldier also
reported as dying August 13, 1834.

Timothy Marsh gives this soldier's
obituary [Doesn’t say from
what paper] and the date of death
given is March 24,
1835, then apparently quoting from the
pension application, the
date of death is given as August 13,
1834. They also state that
he had children by a former wife,
but their names are not given
in the pension application. This
book also includes a deed
abstract, but doesn't say where it is
recorded: It is dated August
18, 1815. Thomas Drake and
Catharine his wife of Bedford
County, Tennessee, to Merritt
Davis, Brunswick County,
Virginia ... Consists $380.00 paid to
me by Henry Davis the next
friend of Merrit Davis ... conveys
all rights and interests
the said Thomas Drake and Catharine,
his wife, have to certain
lands and tenements as heirs or
legatees of George Vaughn,

County. Widow pensioned at
Stevensburg, Virginia, in 1845,
