Notes for Samuel Lemuel Vaughan:
Information from Patricia J. Treadwell is main source of Samuel, also
known as Lemuel Vaughan. Her initial information came from one of George
Washington Vaughan's daughters,Mildred Vaughan Bouton.The date of
Mildred's handwritten letters not exactly known, but Mildred was born in
1867 and died in 1952. Patricia Treadwell has copies of the letters. Here
is some of what Mildred wrote.
Grandfather Lemuel Vaughan married Mildred Thomas as 1st wife against
wishes of her father. Married 2nd Rebecca? By his first wife who was my
grandmother he had two sons.
1.William Lewis Vaughan born August 19,1811 died June 29,1845 buried Old

20,1816 married 1st Miss Matilda Wheeler at New Market,Alabama who lived
only a short time and died without issue. Married second Mary Marion
Pettipool(P'Pool)(my mother)Jan. 6,1847 at New Market,Alabama Madison

on farm in sections 13 and 14 Township 3 range 1 east in 1848. Issue six

William and George ran away from their home being predudiced against
their stepmother when very small boys and followed a movers wagon over
the mountains to their maternal grandfather Thomas. When they reached his
home he was on his death bed and had made his will leaving to the two
boys one dollar each, and they never saw him alive. I do not know the
given name of my greatgrandfather Vaughan or Thomas.
Will later found in Rutherford County Courthouse,John Thomas named in his
will,William and George Washington Vaughan as sons of his deceased
daughter Mildred Vaughan, one dollar each. He died 1828.
She also writes of the Pettipool family. Basically that is what she wrote
down about the Vaughan's. I have not located a marriage for a Lemuel/
Samuel Vaughan to a Rebecca??Not known if they stayed in Mecklenburg or
moved elsewhere. Mildred Thomas Vaughan's gravesite unknown. Her death
between 1816 when George Washington Vaughan born and 1828 when her father
John Thomas died.
There are deeds in Mecklenburg Co.,Virginia courthouse for a Lemuel, but not for
a Samuel. Note, found in courthouse records that Lemuel and Samuel same
person, now can enter more info on Lemuel Vaughan-Nov. 2002.
