Death of S. D. Vaughn, Age 85

At the age of 85, S. D. Vaughn, one of the oldest residents of
the southeast side of the county, passed beyond, and the good
wife is at the point of death, and is almost the same age. Both
have lived in the Polk Township community for many years
and have been leading and substantial citizens. They were
born in Tennessee and are at the head of a well known family.

Besides the aged wife, the children are Mrs. John Bodenhamer,
Mrs. Joshua Waltsip (sic), Eli and Douglas Vaughn, Mrs. Isaac
Fish and Mrs. Dalton Clark. Among the grandchildren are
Mrs. George Sexton and Mrs. James Henry of this city.

Burial at Gilgal Cemetery

Mrs. Mary Vaughn, Mrs. Josie Chenault, son, (illegible) and daughters, Gladys and Inez of Oolitic, Donald Vaughn, at Bloomington, Lawrence M(illegible), and George Vaughn of
Oolitic and Mr. and Mrs. Lon Clark of Clear Creek, Mrs. Glady Bundy of this city went to Heltonville this morning to attend the funeral of S. D. Vaughn, an aged pioneer and their relative.

The deceased was 85 years of age and leaves a widow and seven grown children.

The funeral took place at noon today from the Gilgal Church, interment following in the Gilgal Cemetery.

Lawrence County Death Record

Stokely Vaughn died on May 8, 1917, in Lawrence County,
Indiana, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 12 days. He
was married to Amanda Vaughn at the time of his death. The
cause of death was chronic intersticial nephritis. The under-
taker was D. B. Stafford and place of burial was Gilgal Cemetery,
Heltonville, Lawrence County, Indiana. He was born on June 26, 1831, in Tennessee to Wilson and Nancy (Bowlen) Vaughn, natives of Massachusetts and Tennessee, respectively.
