Elizabeth Vaughn
Belle Prairie 1859

Elizabeth Vaughn, daughter of Thomas and Bashaba Green, was born
near Belle Prairie, October 9, 1859. Departed this life September 20,
1929 at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 11 days.On April 22, 1879, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Proctor.
To this union one child was born, Mrs. Addie Snyder of Beaver Creek
township. After the death of her husband, she was united in marriage
to Alfred W. Vaughn, October 8, 1884. To this union, six children were
born; Mary Myrtle, Emma Frances, David Harry, Flora Josephine and
two who died in infancy. They all preceded her in death with the
exception of David Harry Vaughn, who lives near McLeansboro. She
professed faith in Christ and united with the Missionary Baptist Church
at Smith Chapel in 1885. Later she united with the Pleasant Union
Christian Church near Blairsville, where she remained a faithful
and consistent member until death.She was a loving and devoted companion, kind and indulgent mother,
ever ready and willing to administer words and deeds of kindness. She
was a constant reader of the Holy Bible and was guided by its
instructions. She leaves to mourn their loss, her companion, one
daughter, one son, one sister Tobitha Rose of Mcleansboro, four
brothers, namely: J. H. Green of Belle Prairie; Joel and George of East
St. Louis, and Adam Green of McLeansboro, twelve grandchildren, one
great grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.Services were held at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, conducted by
N. C. Holder. Interment in the cemetery at this place, in the presence
of a very large audience.
