‘Last Rites Tuesday for Mrs. Vaughan’


Mrs. John L. Vaughan, beloved matron of Cartersville, died at her home on Tenn. Rd.
Sunday, following an illness of several months.  She was 85 years of age.

Mrs. Vaughan fell and broke her hip several months ago, and since that time has been
confined to her bed.  Her death came as a shock to her hundreds of friends throughout
this section.  She was born on 11/4/1857, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Reynolds, who were prominent residents of the county in there time.  She was married
to the late John L. Vaughan who preceeded her death in 1913.

She was a member of Pine Log Methodist Church, and never hesitated to perform all
of her many duties in the church while she was physically able.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Pine Log Church with the Rev.
B.W. Hancock of Cartersville assisted by Rev. M.M. Brackman officating.

Serving as pallbearers were 6 grandsons, Wiley Vaughan, Frank Bishop, Bill Bishop,
Joel Bishop, J.A. Vaughan, and Freeman Bagwell.

She was survived by one sister, Mrs. Dixie Jenkins of Cartersville and one brother,
Jim Reynolds of White.
