Date Mar 1831 Case Number 53 Plaintiff Cary, a man of color Defendant Wilder, Benjamin Case Action Trespass, assault & battery, false imprisonment Action Notes damages $1,000 General Notes - Plaintiffs claimed he was a slave of Thomas J. Vaughn 9 years prior & moved to Galena, IL to work in mines & digging; defendant then claimed him as a slave, hired an Enoch Price as captain of Steamboat "St. Louis" & took plaintiff to New Orleans
