Ambrose Vaughan was born about 1756 in Brunswick Co, Virginia. He is sometimes shown as the
son of Cornelius Vaughan. Ambrose Vaughan died in 1825 without a will. {Confirming Source:
Wayne Rainey of North Carolina provides following information} Will Book 12, page 25 has the
Accounts Current of his estate dated 28 Jan 1829. First money listed is on Nov. 23, 1826, so
Ambrose died before then and since the document starts with acct. current 1825 then it is likely
Ambrose died sometime in 1825. On Dec 12, 1826 $12.50 paid to Robertson Cheatham, and same
paid to Robert Vaughan and Joseph Gregory. On March 1, 1827 cash is paid to Williamson P.
Roberts, note made that he was husband of Sallie Sands {Ginie notes this may be the nickname for
Araminta Sands, daughter of Nancy & Philip since no other Sands daughter is mentioned}.
Will Book 12, page 329 Acct. Current dated 29 Nov 1830 with money paid on Feb 1, 1829, the
amount of $422.77paid to Mrs. Martha Vaughan which is 1/3 of estate balance and the rest paid
in 1/4 amounts of $70.46 to Livingston H. Vaughan, Ro. Vaughan, Samuel Vaughan, & Mrs.
Nancy Sands who has notation that Ambrose was her father. $24.60 paid to Philip L. Sands and
it is noted that Mrs. Nancy Sands is widow of him and the administrator of Ambrose Vaughan's
estate is "habris" of Said Sands. $1.93 is paid to Thomas Wartman who was brother of John
Wartman who was father of Tabitha Wartman (born later in 1834) who became 2nd wife of my
2nd great grandfather William H. Rainey-William's son, John Gray Rainey, married Sarah
Ellen Vaughan, daughter of Beverley B.Vaughan, a son of Livingston. The Raineys lived on the
western side of Vaughan land-today I-85 cuts between the two farms both still in family hands
through daughters.

have been Elizabeth Livingston since her first son is named Livingston, which is likely a family
name, perhaps a maternal family name.

south of Statesville, North Carolina.

Mecklenburg Co, Virginia. It is not known whether or not she was born before
or after Araminta or if she is Araminta – and as Araminta she may have
gone by the nickname of Sallie & her 2nd husband may be Williamson P.
Roberts. The date of marriage could confirm this, if found.

Third GenerationVaughan Family Notes
Frances Vaughan who married Hutson Nipper in 1792 and Clary Vaughan who married John Burton in
1787 both show Ambrose as surety for their marriages in Mecklenburg Co, Virginia; so they may be sisters
of our Nancy – and therefore aunts to our Martha Ann. However, the time frame could indicate the two
women were sisters of Ambrose. He died without a Will but the following shows the settling of his estate
(copied below exactly as written) is not much help, either, in determining his children:The Following was Contributed by H. Wayne Rainey, descendent of Livingston Vaughan Mecklenburg County, Virginia Will Book 12,page 329 has will of Ambrose Vaughan dated Feb. 1,1825.
One third of estate to widow, Martha. Balance of estate divided in four parts to Livingston H. Vaughan, Robert Vaughan, Samuel Vaughan, and one fourth to Nancy Sands. Phillip L. Sands mentioned as husband of Nancy Vaughan Sands. The witnesses to the will were Thomas Wartman and Northington Cheatham. John Cheatham
was her first husband. The four children are by Ambrose's first wife whose name is only known as Elizabeth. Martha, his second wife was Martha Land.

editor of the Rainey Times surname publication and the John Gray Rainey story appeared in the Rainey Times. John married Sarah Ellen Vaughan who was granddaughter of Livingston.
