County Intro


Sussex County was formed in 1753 when it was split off from Surry County.


Parish Intro


Albemarle Parish was formed in Surry County in 1738 from the reorganization of Southwark Parish and Lawnes Creek Parish. When Sussex County was formed Albemarle Parish became Sussex County.


Records


Unlike many other Virginia counties, Sussex County has no Chancery Case Files. However, there are a few cases from other counties that relate to Sussex County.
