City Intro
Petersburg was formed in 1748 as a City located in Dinwiddie Co. In 1784 it was incorporated as a town and the adjacent cities of Blandford, Pocahontas and Ravenscroft were added to Petersburg. From that time it functioned as an "Independent City" with its own court system, taxation, deed recording, marriage recording and probate recording. Petersburg covers a portion of Dinwiddie, Chesterfield and Prince George Counties.
