Descendants of Cornelius Vaughan
England to Caroline Co., Virginia

Below is a letter I received from list member, Robin Page. Robin found this

treasure and she would like to share it. Below is a notation to an old letter

written by Edmund Vaughan, grandson of Cornelius Vaughan. Cornelius

migrated from England to Caroline Co., Virginia. The letter is dated Dec. 1849

and addressed to Edmund's son. It outlines this Vaughan family from Cornelius

to the next three generations. Below Robin's original letter to me are links to a

copy of the original letter and a transcription Robin has done for Edmund's letter.

Considering the condition of the letter, she has had trouble transcribing the letter

completely. (See her message below!) MANY THANKS for Robin's generousity.

Dear Linda,

Here is the letter I said I would send. The original letter had been

in my father- in-laws basement in an old trunk of family treasures.

Unfortunately no one knew what it read because the paper was so

thin (like tissue paper) that if you tried to read it you saw the writing

on the front and back at the same time. I decided to photocopy it and

take it home and study it. When I did, the back side did not show

through as much. I thought it was worth a chance even though I

knew that it could detereate the original letter further but I thought

that the contents of the letter would soon be lost forever it's in a very

delicate condition and may not be available much longer.

I wrote what I thought the letter said. Please feel free to add or
correct anything that you can. Like I said I have not had much
experience with reading old documents and the script is very
unfamiliar to me.

The dark areas on the letter is where someone, long ago put scotch
tape on it to hold it together if you hold it against a window whith
light coming through it the writing can still be detected.

Please feel free to post this on the list or on the website it is a
wonderful family treasure and I want to share it with others that
might be of this family.

There is also a book called Forks of Elkhorn Chuch by Jett Darnell
published by Genealogical Publising Co., that has a great deal of
info. and many of the people listed in the letter
(Vaughans, Blantons, Samuel,)

I also have a family bible of the descendents of Harrison Vaughan.
It lists births, deaths and marriages of his children and some
grandchildren. I would be happy to share with anyone that would
be interested.

PS Many of these people in the letter are buried in Johnson County
and Lafayette Co. in Missouri.
