William W. Vaughan was born in Mongomeryshire,
North Wales,
in 1813; came to Racine in
1842; was engaged in the lumber and
flouring business, at Berlin,
Wisconsin, for ten years; married, in
November 1840, Elizabeth
Williams; is a member of the Welsh
Presbyterian Church; Republican
in politics; has held the offices
of Supervisor, School Commissioner;
Alderman for ten years;
Mayor of the city in 1852;
County Treasurer in the years of 1856
and 1857; was one of the
Republican Presidential Electors in
1860, casting his vote for
Lincoln and Hamlin; is engaged in the
flour milling business; is
a member of the dry goods and grocery
firm of Vaughan, Jones &
Roberts; is one of the solid men of
Racine, and one of the oldest
business men of the city. [Delivered an
address at the Old Settlers'
