Stokley Vaughn
Hawkins Co., Tennessee

Stokley, son of Wilson and Nancy (Bowlen) came from
Hawkins Co., TN in 1849.  Brothers, Wylie, Wesley, Clinton
and sister Mary came also.

Stokley was born June 1831 and died May 1917 in
Lawrence County.  He enlisted in the Union Army and was discharged after three months with a disability.  A carpenter
by trade and continued to build until retirement at age 81.
He  served as Justice of the Peace for many years.  A member
of the Methodist Church and remained true to its rules until
the end.

Stokley was loved and respected by all who knew him.  He
gained many boat rides by playing his fiddle through many
different states.

July 1850 Stokley married Amanda, daughter of William
and Nancy (Rogers) Sullivan.  She was born November 1831
and died May 1917, five days after her husband.  Both are
buried in Gilgal Cemetery. Amanda was a hard worker and
raised her 12 children besides caring for six children of
Wesley Vaughn.

Children of Amanda and Stokley:  William Clinton, Margaret
Ann, Srepta Jane, Mary Matilda, Nancy Catherine, James
Ervin, Eli Wilson, Cyrus Douglas, Marinda Ellen, Susan
Eunice, Flora Belle and Charles Roscoe Vaughn.
