From the autobiographical sketch of Col. Alfred Jefferson Vaughan

      published privately:

I have additonal corroboration for the Hunt-Harwell-Vaughan story,
also from Jack C. Vaughan who was my uncle. In another of his books
""The General, the Colonel, and Martha Jane," he refers to Mark
Harwell as the half brother of young Alfred's .

I do have a good bit of information which Uncle Jack compiled, but I
have just started to try to sift through it.  I have not had much faith in
his research as he does not cite his sources very well. However, I will
have to say that everything I have found has jived. For instance, in the
Virginia marriage records the names, dates, etc. have been correct. I
will be happy to share with anyone interested. Additional surnames are
Boisseau, Hardaway, Chapline, Grigg, Gilliam, Chambliss and Chick.

Some other families mentioned in Jack Vaughan's books which may
have some family connections are Batte, Bonner, and Parham.
